Australia marks my first time to step into a Western country in 3 years since I left Vancouver in 2001! So far, I find Australia too Westernized, too touristy, and too expensive (the 3 Big Too's). However, this is only an initial impression which I hope will change for the positive in the future. The Aussies are some of the most friendly, extroverted, and hospitable people that I've met in my life which is always a bonus! I will be heading from Darwin to Cairns and then down the East Coast to do a Working Holiday in Sydney.
Sorry you are finding Oz the three Too´s but that wont last, I promise...well actually on second thought, you had better skip the trashy Surfers Paradise and get straight to Byron...sorry I cant help you out with a friend or accomodation since Im still on my world travels and currently in Madrid, off to Lisbon tonight! Love the pics tho, cant believe you ate kangaroo!!! eeeeeew...enjoy Australia and keep in touch, maybe we can meet in Sydney if you are sticking around for a few months, I will be back in january!
Agree on the 3 big Too's, specially on the East Coast. But if you accept it and loosen up a bit, you'll realize it's a fun and beautiful country. However, I believe you'll like NZ more (I did myself).
Rubbish when u arrive in Adelaide its probaly the cheapest living cost with Sydney being the most expensive. 1hr parking in the city here costs $1.40 and $3.90 will still buy u a plate of chinese food here. Rents for a 2bedroom apartment can be found for around $160 a week and thats a new apartment. Take my expenses for instance my car cost me $240 and came with airconditioning and a cd player and my rent in my 2bedroom apartment is $37.50 a week of which i can show proof and im right in the heart of the city of Adelaide. Beat that for being on the cheap.
